Dear Friends,
We apologize for sending you broken links to the October 2020 Offering Invitations & Prayers and Stewardship Seconds. You will find both below this message. Please email us if you have questions or concerns.
Blessings,
Sarah Charters Acting Director of Philanthropy Stewardship SecondsOctober 2020 October 4: Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost Everyone is welcome at God’s banquet table. Good stewards use their resources to help ensure that no one feels left out of God’s abundance.
October 11: Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost Everything comes from God and belongs to God; we give, not in tribute to God’s power, but in gratitude for what we have been given.
October 18: Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost “All we have” can be a little or a lot. There is always a way to reach out to our neighbour.
October 25: Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost When we are gone, what legacy will we leave? Will it be one of generous giving from God’s abundance, or one of hoarding and fear? Offering Invitations and PrayersOctober 2020 October 4: Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost Invitation We are invited to the banquet table, all of us. There is a seat for you, and you, and you. We are called to celebrate and nothing else. All that is required is our presence; our presence includes our gifts already given through PAR, plus the money, time and talent we offer now. Come, for the table is set.
Prayer We thank you, God, for this place at the Table. We thank you also for making room for others at this Table. One of our greatest joys is the gift of relationship. Thanks to you, that gift is often a surprise to us. Channel our gifts today into vessels of hospitality for others, that they too may find a home. Thank you, it is great to be in this place. Amen.
October 11: Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost Invitation In our tradition we are all saints in light, all gifted, blessed and sent by God “to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God…” As we walk in that light, we are invited to be companions to those who often walk in the shadows. As saints we walk arm in arm, sisters and brothers, emboldened by God’s vision of that New Jerusalem. Walk with me, as together we share our givings through PAR, our monetary gifts, our time and our talents, with all of the companions we shall meet on the way.
Prayer God of our forebears, we remember specifically mentors who shared their faith with us. Their witness, in good times and bad, reminds us what you can do in and through our lives. As those who came before us shared their vision, their witness, their gifts, so we now bring all that we have, all that we are, to your table of grace. Thank you, it is great to be in this place. Amen.
October 18: Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost Invitation The God of Aaron, Moses and Joshua is also our God. At different times, in different places, God calls forth a blessing from all of us. At this moment God calls on you and me. With our PAR, our monetary donations, our time and our talents, we respond, “Here I am, Lord, send me!”
Prayer Of all the laws we have been given, we are most grateful for the summons to love our neighbours and ourselves as we love you. Life is so confusing, especially when we consider all the different claims of truth that are made upon us. Thank you, God, for this clarity of vision and action, that in our generosity we find the true nature of your character. Thank you, it is great to be in this place. Amen. October 25: Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost Invitation As one wise soul once said, “If we are to give unto God what is God’s and give unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, there will not be much left for poor Caesar!” Everything is of God and belongs to God, so what we give now is a thankful response for blessings of creation. Through our PAR, our monetary gifts, our time and talent, we show our gratitude and return your gifts to you for your mission.
Prayer God, your image is embedded in everything we have and everything we are. You are a gift to us and for us to proclaim your New Jerusalem. Stir in us the passion to be your people and honour your name. We give all to you, as in Jesus you gave all to us. Thank you, it is great to be in this place. Amen. |
