A New Year's Message from General Secretary Rev. Dr. Gina Jacobs-Strain

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 - Festive silvester New Year s Eve Party background greeting card - Golden fireworks in the dark blue night.

Dear Beloved followers of Christ,

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, we look back with gratitude for the grace and peace that Christ has poured into our lives during this past year. Christmas has reminded us of the hope and joy that entered the world through the birth of our Savior, and as we move forward into the new year, we are called to carry that same hope into the future.

We are assured by the words of Scripture that God is with us, guiding us into a future filled with promise. As the Apostle Paul writes in his letter to the Philippians, “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6, NRSV). This verse instructs us that the work God that has begun in us—through Christ—is a work that will be completed. We can have an unyielding hope in the certainty of God’s faithfulness, knowing that God is always at work, shaping us into the people we are called to be.

American Baptists, as we step into 2025, let us remember that the same peace, love, hope and joy of Christ that we celebrated during Christmas continues to guide us. We are empowered by the work of the Holy Spirit in us to be ambassadors for Christ and agents of reconciliation. Together let us be instruments of peace, extending love to our neighbors, embracing the diversity of God’s creation, and working together to bring healing to our world.

May we walk together in faith, embracing God’s plan for our lives and for the world God loves so deeply. Let us expand our definition of neighbor and lean into sharing grace and mercy.

In 2025, let us look forward with enthusiasm and expectancy to participating in the movement of God in our families, churches, and communities near and far.

Happy New Year! May 2025 be a year of growth, forgiveness, and abundant love as we continue to live out the mission entrusted to us.

In Christ’s Love,

American Baptist Churches USA - A Message of Gratitude

A Message of Gratitude from ABCUSA General Secretary Rev. Dr. Gina Jacobs-Strain

Dear Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV

As we enter the holiday season, I am reminded of the countless blessings that God has graciously bestowed upon us—gifts of love, family, community, and faith. It is a time to reflect on God’s goodness and to express our gratitude for the many ways we are sustained each day. This season calls us to pause and be thankful for all that we have received, both seen and unseen.

And as we lean into this season of gratitude, let us also remember that it is a season of prayer—a time to lift up those who are in the midst of great struggle. As we gather around our tables, let us not forget those who are suffering in places of war, oppression, and violence. Let us be intercessors for our brothers and sisters who are enduring the hardship of displacement and loneliness and those who have lost so much in the wake of natural disasters.

I ask you to be prayerful for all those in need of healing, restoration, and peace. American Baptists, we have an opportunity, in this season to share not just our thanks, but our hearts and actions of kindness, equity and genuine care for everyone we engage. We can be instruments of compassion and hope by sharing the light and love of Christ with those whose lives are broken, for those who grieve, for those who long for justice.

May this season not only be a time of gratitude, but a time of humility and peaceful presence in our communities. As ambassadors for Christ bringing comfort and extending grace where ever it is needed. Let us pray for the miraculous touch of God's hand in our lives. Let us be thankful, yes—and let us ask God to make us vessels of God’s grace in a hurting world.

Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season filled with the blessed assurance of a Risen Savior, Jesus Christ.

Peace be with you,

Rev. Dr. Gina Jacobs-Strain
