RNS Morning Report - Bethany Christian reverses LGBTQ inclusion, “reinforces” traditional marriage

RNS Morning Report Desktop

Bethany Christian Services, long described as the country’s largest Protestant adoption and foster care agency, announced in 2021 it would allow LGBTQ couples to foster and adopt. That change came as civil liberties groups pushed for state and federal LGBTQ non-discrimination policies and argued that groups receiving government funding shouldn’t exclude anyone.

But now five years later, the agency has again reversed its policy and will no longer allow LGBTQ couples to foster or adopt, according to a statement to RNS Reporter Kathryn Post.

Given Bethany’s size — the faith-based nonprofit serves in over 25 states and has well over 1,000 staff members worldwide — the changes will be far-reaching.
