Together April 2026

April 2026

Welcome

Welcome to the April 2026 edition of Together, the online newsletter of The Fellowship Community-- a network of churches and leaders committed to living and proclaiming the good news of Jesus by gathering, equipping and encouraging one another.

I'm writing the week after celebrating the death and the resurrection of Jesus, and a few weeks before we gather in Zionsville for the 2026 National Gathering. We are motivated by hope--

For I know the plans I have for you... plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

and love--

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:14–16 (NIV)

I want to offer thanks in advance for the generosity of individuals and churches to make the National Gathering possible. Your designated financial contributions are providing partial or full scholarships for over 140 of the 350 participants (as of today) -- small church pastors, younger future leaders, spouses, and missionaries. And your undesignated gifts provide for four (very) part-time and motivated staff who coordinate, administrate, and communicate for the National Gathering (and all year round). I am grateful for a great lineup of speakers and workshop leaders and over two dozen exhibitors/sponsors. We have 131 signed up for the pastor pre-gathering!

For those who will be in attendance, we are praying that God will fill you with hope and love as healthy leaders, younger and future leaders, and missional leaders for the sake of Christ's ministry in the world.

If you haven't yet registered, do it today! Invite friends, elders, colleagues to join us in Zionsville. Consider asking individuals or your session to give a special gift to TFC. Thank you!

Northeast Mini-Retreat Re-Cap

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, we held a TFC northeast regional mini-retreat. Thank you to the 30 participants from 4 states including a teenager, who joined us. We spent the day in worship, learning, fellowship, sharing meals, and hearing updates from TFC. Board Secretary Rev. Cynthia Betz-Bogoly hosted us at her historic church in Perkasie, PA. Lots of first-time TFC participants joined us, as well as some familiar friends.

Thank you to Rev. Dr. Matthew McNutt for his presentation Staying Power: Building a Volunteer Team that Lasts. We learned from his recent doctoral research about how to recruit, train, and retain amazing, dedicated, and gifted church volunteers for the longevity of ministry. Thank you to TFC Executive Director Rev. Mike McClenahan who joined us via Zoom from the west coast to offer greetings and updates, too.

Are We Trusting in the Right Things?

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Our Easter refrain is still ringing in my ears in a beautiful way. However, I’m always struck by remembering how our Orthodox brothers and sisters utilize it–as a common greeting when meeting friends, regardless of the location, for forty days after Easter. At Trader Joe’s, on the street, in a parking lot, Christ is risen! He is risen indeed…for forty days! We’re lucky if we get two Sundays out of it. Forty days would almost make one think that for a follower of Jesus, resurrection was really, really important. Yes.

TFC Board member Dan Baumgartner reminds us to trust our boots.
