E-ssentials: Call for Climate Leadership, Deep Gratitude for Volunteers, and more!

Call for Climate Leadership This Earth Week

[Image credit: The United Church of Canada]

This Earth Week, take your commitment one step further.

Across the country, communities of faith are raising their voices—calling on elected leaders to act with urgency and courage for the sake of creation. You are invited to join them.

Consider offering your community a simple but powerful opportunity to make an impact: print and share a letter to your local Member of Parliament, and invite people to personalize it with their own hopes, concerns, and prayers for the future.

Writing to an MP may feel like a small act—but together, our voices carry weight. This is a meaningful way to live out our faith, advocate for climate justice, and care for the world God has entrusted to us.

Download the Call for Climate Leadership letter and help your community take faithful action this Earth Week!  Add your message to this online padlet. The Leaders Guide provides some additional background.

Ensuring Freedom of Worship for All in Jerusalem

“Seek the peace of the city… and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its peace you will find your peace.” — Jeremiah 29:7

The United Church of Canada echoes the call of the World Council of Churches for renewed action to ensure freedom of worship and safe access to holy sites in Jerusalem. Following reports of violence during the Holy Fire service on Holy Saturday, church leaders are urging Israeli authorities to uphold the long-standing commitment that Jerusalem remain a shared and sacred city for all - where Christians, Muslims, and Jews can gather in prayer without fear or restriction.

Take Action
Write to your MP  asking them to support protection of access to holy sites for all faiths.

Pray
Pray with global partners and all who long to worship in safety and for Jerusalem to be a place where all faiths can live and pray in peace.

Many communities of faith are living in an “in-between” time—marked by change, uncertainty, and grief. In a new blog, Rev. Hyuk Cho invites us to see this moment not as a problem to fix, but as a season of transformation.

Drawing from his upcoming book, Cho explores intercultural becoming—a way of life rooted in companionship, honesty, and a willingness to be changed through relationship.
