Maison St. Columba House – Building Courageous Community for Over a Century November’s Engage! Love and Justice Gathering, dedicated an entire day to the idea of building courageous community and what it looks like in practice. We wanted to share Lisa Byer de Wever’s presentation on courageous community, using St. Columba House as an example.Maison St. Columba House, a partnership between The United Church of Canada and the Montreal community of Point St. Charles, runs programs to: - Address food insecurity.
- Educate children and youth and keep them well and safe.
- Address the care and social needs of marginalized groups such as seniors and people with disabilities.
- Advocate for social justice and fair treatment for all.
- Provide employment opportunities and community service through a bicycle repair service.
Maison St. Columba House has been doing its vital work since 1917 – for over a century! As Christmas approaches, let’s ask ourselves how we can build courageous communities like Saint Columba House, where we: - Strive every day to build strong, diverse, and welcoming communities.
- Do our best to provide people with what they need.
- Advocate for a world where people are treated fairly.
- Partner with others to good in our wider communities.
Thank you, Maison St Columba, for all the good that it has done and continues to do! Email slevis@united-church.ca for access to Lisa Byer de Wever’s video presentation at the Engage! Love and Justice Gathering. |
