Church and Society Revised Social Principles on new websiteWASHINGTON — A new website to introduce the revised Social Principles to The United Methodist Church has been created by the United Methodist Board of Church and Society. The site includes an introductory video, translations of the document in eight languages and additional resources. The revised Social Principles will be considered by delegates at the 2020 General Conference in May.Visit website
United Methodist Publishing House Submitted GC2020 legislation now onlineNASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Advance Daily Christian Advocate, which contains the agenda, delegate listings and already submitted legislation for the 2020 General Conference, is now out. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A survey of central conference delegates is providing important direction for the team planning the pre-General Conference 2020 orientation for central conference delegates. Delegates from Africa, Europe and the Philippines were most interested in three topics: conversation with delegates from other delegations and areas of the central conferences, educational materials such as the Advance Daily Christian Advocate to equip delegates in making informed decisions, and restructuring proposals affecting the organization and makeup of the denomination.Read press release
CHICAGO — The North Central Jurisdiction's Committee on the Episcopacy and College of Bishops have proposed electing only one bishop in 2020. The General Council on Finance and Administration informed Bishop David Bard, current president of the jurisdiction's College of Bishops, that the jurisdiction had fallen below the membership threshold to sustain nine episcopal areas and that a reduction was possible. DELAWARE, Ohio — Preacher, educator and widely published author the Rev. O. Wesley Allen Jr. will lead the 2020 Schooler Institute on Preaching at Methodist Theological School in Ohio. The two-day event will be March 3-4 on the MTSO campus, 3081 Columbus Pike in Delaware. The event is free to the public, as is lunch both days. Read more
CONCORD, N.C. — The group United Methodist Rural Advocates is offering 10 scholarships to cover housing and some meals of people attending the 2020 General Conference. People meeting the group's criteria can apply by Feb. 28. The scholarships are made possible by a grant from the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.Learn more
