Montreat Conference Center - Do you hike, do yoga, or fly fish?

Why is it so difficult to give ourselves time to relax, let go, and renew?
Join us for devotions, hiking, yoga, and fly fishing as we saunter, meditate, and relax for two days in practice of renewal. Montreat will provide the perfect backdrop for a deep dive into renewal of mind, body, and spirit. Come and be, and leave refreshed.
Daily devotions led by Brian McLaren
Each day will begin with a group devotional as Brian discusses R & SR (rest and spiritual refreshment).

Join us one evening for storytelling with a local Asheville group, The Porch Storytelling: Five Stories, Three Songs, One Community. They invite you to relax, listen, and discover the meaning in their shared tales of the small and enormous things that make up life. The theme for the conference is Better Stories for a Better World.

How can we share stories to help others on the path of renewal?
Choose from three activity tracks to focus on during your
time here.
Mary Carroll Dodd, yoga leader
Yoga
In our hectic lives it is difficult to carve out time to relax, let go, and renew. Why is that? Yoga is a practice that allows us to slow down and bring into focus what is truly important. I practice yoga because it gives me permission to create space both in my mind and my body. It renews my spirit and gives me a sense of peace and calm amidst the craziness of the world around us. We will focus on yoga as a way to dive into renewal of body, mind, and spirit together.
Intentional Hiking
Walking as spiritual practice is less about using your path for the sake of transportation and more about engaging the trail for ongoing transformation. With the wisdom of select poets and naturalists to guide us, we will trek and converse, exploring how to engage as participants in a community of wildness. With our senses in tune to the elements, we will saunter and reflect, exploring what it means to pray with our feet.
Aram Mitchell, hiking leader
Tanner Pickett, fly fishing leader
Fly Fishing
"People fish because they are searching for something. Often it is not a fish." -Fennel Hudson, British author and “traditional angler.”

Our culture often promotes a “goal-oriented” mindset and rewards those with their “eyes on the prize.” Goals and aspirations are worthy, but are they really the ultimate reward? No amount of sheer will or wishful thinking will influence a fish to bite. What if we can look at the experience of fly-fishing as more of a teacher and less of a goal-oriented task?
