Last month, congregations and communities across the Uniting Church gathered for Intercultural Neighbouring Sunday (INS) – a day to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures and languages that make up the body of Christ and explore what it means to live our faith interculturally. From worship in multiple languages and shared meals to conversations about racism, reconciliation and belonging, our church communities marked INS in ways that reflected their own local contexts. Some celebrated cultures already woven into their congregational life. Others reached beyond their church walls to build new relationships and create practical spaces of welcome. Together, these stories reveal that intercultural life is not simply about recognising difference. It is about allowing our lives to be changed by one another, discovering where God is already at work, and learning to live as one body with many parts. |

The Uniting Church is updating its Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice to better support ministry agents in today’s changing contexts. Following extensive consultation across the Church, the revised Code strengthens guidance around accountability, cultural safety, Safe Church practices, professional boundaries, technology and wellbeing. It also recognises the diverse settings in which ministry takes place and the Church’s commitment to being an intercultural Church. Scheduled to take effect from 1 January 2027, the revised Code seeks to equip ministry agents to exercise their calling faithfully, safely and with confidence. |

During a recent visit to Hobart North Uniting Church, President Rev Charissa Suli was encouraged by a congregation asking a simple question, ‘How can we love our neighbours well?’. President Suli heard how the congregation is weaving Christ’s love into its community through partnerships with Orange Sky, Uniting’s Catalyst Day, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, a community food pantry and Bible studies. |

This October, more than 600 delegates will converge on Fremantle for the Fijian National Conference. Volunteers are needed for a range of roles, from registration and ushering to children’s activities, airport transfers and luggage assistance. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience Fijian faith and culture, connect with Uniting Church members from across Australia, and offer a warm welcome and hospitality. |

The National Assembly is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people to join its Finance, Audit and Risk Committee (AFARC). This voluntary role provides independent oversight of financial stewardship, risk management, governance, compliance and assurance across the National Assembly and its agencies. Applications are welcome from UCA members and non-members with relevant governance, financial or risk experience. The initial appointment is for three years. Applications close 7 September 2026. |

Last weekend, Wayside Chapel’s #TeamWayside brought people together for the City2Surf fun run to raise vital support for people experiencing hardship and isolation. There’s still time to help them reach their fundraising goal. St Michael’s Uniting Church has celebrated its reopening following a period of refurbishment, marking a joyful return to a much-loved place of worship and community. Among the guests were Synod of Victoria and Tasmania Moderator Rev Salesi Faupula, former Moderator Rev David Fotheringham, and UAICC National Co-chair Rev Will Pickett. Throughout August, Rosefield Uniting Church is hosting the SALA Let's Go Fly a Kite exhibition, featuring over 100 vibrant, handmade quilted and flyable kites crafted by church and community members to celebrate creativity and local connection. Uniting NSW.ACT is calling on the Federal Government to end aged care rationing and fund older Australians eligible for Support at Home to the level of their assessment. The World Council of Churches is urging a pause on proposed plans to merge UN Women and the UN Population Fund, warning the move could weaken vital mandates protecting gender equality and the dignity of vulnerable people.

Lord, please bring comfort and healing to those who have lost loved ones, for the students, teachers and families who have experienced trauma, and for those still recovering from their injuries. Republic of Congo, Gabon, Sao Tome and Principe as part of the WCC Ecumenical Prayer Cycle.
