WCC Faith and Order, in collaboration with Christian World Communions, is organizing the series to explore key theological, ecclesiological, and missional questions relevant to contemporary Christian unity.

The 15 July  webinar, cohosted by the World Council of Churches and Mennonite World Conference, will invite us to explore the significance of the Nicaean Creed, and the Council of Nicaea from where it emerged, from a Mennonite/Anabaptist perspective, and how this influences the peace witness of the church.

Panelists will discuss how the church’s focus on doctrinal questions sidelined Jesus’ call to seek justice and live nonviolently. From a Mennonite/Anabaptist perspective, participants  will be able to explore how recovering these aspects can contribute to the renewal of church witness today.

WCC News: Upcoming global webinar tackles period stigma in faith communities

As the international community works toward achieving gender equality by 2030, faith leaders are stepping forward to address one of the most overlooked barriers to women's empowerment: menstrual stigma. A joint webinar on 4 June from 15:00-16:30 CEST will explore how religious communities can lead transformative change in making menstruation a normal fact of life globally.
2 June 2025

"Faith communities have a unique moral authority to challenge harmful taboos that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential," said Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata, World Council of Churches (WCC) programme director for Life, Justice, and Peace. "When we address menstrual hygiene with dignity and respect, we affirm the fundamental worth of every woman and girl."

The "Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld" webinar, hosted by the World Council of Churches, Norwegian Church Aid, and Partnerships for Religion and Development, will bring together diverse perspectives on this critical issue.

Today, millions of women and girls worldwide face discrimination and exclusion simply because they menstruate. Due to societal taboos and lack of access to sanitary products, many use unhygienic alternatives that create health risks. Educational opportunities are lost when girls miss school during their monthly cycles, perpetuating cycles of inequality.

"This webinar marks our fourth year of sustained advocacy on an issue that churches and faith-based organisations have too often ignored," noted Dinesh Suna, WCC programme executive for Land, Water, and Food and coordinator of the WCC Ecumenical Water Network. "We're building momentum toward a world where menstruation becomes a normal part of life rather than a source of shame."

Participants will explore good practices, funding challenges, and concrete actions for local implementation. A key objective of this webinar is to involve men, especially in faith communities, to take leadership in ending the period poverty and stigma.

WCC news: Webinar “The Bishop of Rome and Christian Unity” will kick off series exploring Christian unity

The first of a series of webinars on Christian unity, “The Bishop of Rome and Christian Unity,” will be offered on 18 March 2025

11 March 2025

Hosted by the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU), this webinar is part of a series occurring in the lead-up to the WCC Faith and Order World Conference under the theme "Where Now for Visible Unity?”

The webinar will feature a presentation of the study document The Bishop of Rome. Primacy and Synodality in the Ecumenical Dialogues and in the Responses to the Encyclical Ut Unum Sint, and the process behind it, along with a series of responses, and then questions from the audience.

One of the longstanding issues dividing churches is the role of the Bishop of Rome in service to Christian unity. In 1995, Pope John Paul II addressed this question in his encyclical Ut Unum Sint, calling on church leaders and theologians to discern together how the ministry of the Bishop of Rome could be exercised as a “service of love recognized by all concerned.”

In 2020, the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity marked the 25th anniversary of Ut Unum Sint as an opportunity to resume and deepen this discussion considering responses to the Encyclical and theological dialogue documents. This process culminated in the publication of the study document being introduced in the webinar.

It is hoped that the webinar will promote the reception of the document in the churches and stimulate further theological dialogue on the ministry of the Bishop of Rome in service of Christian unity.

About the series

The WCC Commission on Faith and Order, in collaboration with Christian World Communions, is organizing the series to explore key theological, ecclesiological, and missional questions relevant to contemporary Christian unity. The webinars will serve as platforms for dialogue, reflection, and preparation for the discussions at the world conference.

The webinars will address themes that align with the overarching pillars of the conference—faith, mission, and unity—while also engaging with the legacy and theological significance of the Ecumenical Council at Nicaea 1,700 years ago.

Beyond fostering dialogue, these webinars will aim to generate theological and ecumenical resources for the world conference. The insights, presentations, and discussions from these events will help shape conference materials, inform panel discussions, and contribute to a broader understanding of the issues facing the global church today.

This webinar is presented free of charge, and will be recorded for those who cannot attend in person – but we encourage you to participate live so you can get your questions answered.
