Among the speakers will be World Council of Churches (WCC) moderator Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, whose work is being honored by the symposium, and WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, who will reflect on “The Kingdom of God and World Formation—the Ecumenical Movement.”

The symposium will deepen discussions of how, from its biblical beginnings, Christianity has not only been a matter of pious introspection or church community, but also has always represented the claim to shape society and politics in the spirit of the gospel.

The gathering will consider such questions as: “Who are the addressees of the political commitment of Protestantism?” and “In what historical, ecumenical, interreligious, and international contexts does this commitment take place?”

Participants and speakers will also refer to the work of Bedford-Strohm, who, as a social ethicist, long-time regional bishop, and chairman of the Council of the Protestant Church in Germany, is engaged in both theoretical and practical considerations to the political presence of the evangelical church.

The conference will be held in German and English with simultaneous interpretation.
