What is Summer Staff? - The Montreat Summer Staff Program provides an opportunity for college-aged students to gain professional experience and make lasting memories. Summer Staff spend ten fulfilling weeks in the scenic community of Montreat, North Carolina, working and establishing connection with one another. Most Summer Staff live on-site in community-style housing.
Practical Work Experience - Summer Staff positions offer resume-building and practical working experience. We offer a variety of positions from conference support, environmental education, childcare, and even office jobs as assistants in the Marketing and Development departments. Not only does Summer Staff provide professional work experience, but also provides opportunities for leadership roles with supervisory and co-directing positions.
Close-Knit Community - Summer in Montreat is not only about work, but is also filled with friendships and activity. Summer Staffers often take part in hiking, pottery classes, weekly barn dances, and other various activities scheduled throughout their stay. Summer Staffer Kylee Lary, clerk at The Montreat Store shares, "When I came here, I didn’t know anyone besides my partner. He introduced me to his friend group here and I couldn’t believe how welcoming everyone was."
A Job That Makes an Impact - The Conference Center’s mission statement is “We gather people to experience God’s transforming power and inspire love for the world.” Every job at Montreat Conference Center makes an impact on not only our conferees, but all staff and people in Montreat. By working together, staffers create experiences and an environment conducive for joy and worship. Summer Staffer Henry Eaton, lead wilderness ranger explains, “Clearing the trails has tangible results. My job ensures that conferees and visitors can enjoy their hikes.”
An Opportunity for Growth - The Summer Staff experience is one like no other. It pushes staffers both professionally and personally. It molds people into becoming leaders, friends, and strong, spiritual individuals. The skills obtained through the summer will remain for a lifetime. Emma Lively, a Summer Staffer working for conference support, shares, “Being on Summer Staff has been an amazing experience, and a big part of that is the people I work and live with here! I’ve had the honor of being around people who are so kind and gracious. I’ve really learned from them about being a good neighbor. That’s the biggest lesson I’ll take from Montreat.”
