Good Soil By Robbie Colson-Ramsey, Contributing Writer  Like most people during the pandemic, I was in a bad cycle of getting up, taking a shower, putting on clean yoga pants, going to the kitchen, and, standing in the door of the fridge, I turned to CNN; overcome with fear, sat on the sofa. I would try to change up the rotation at times and go to the pastor’s study, but the never-ending phone ringing and zoom meets overwhelmed my already overwhelmed mind.

Myron Davis uses teamwork, perseverance to reach for Eagle Scout status 
NORRISTOWN — Myron Davis, a member of Troop 752 Norristown, sponsored by Mt. Zion AME Church located on Willow Street in Norristown, used his acumen as a football player to help him reach Eagle scout status. And he cleared the hurdle while facing a tough opponent — COVID-19. Myron began planning his Eagle Project late in 2019, obtaining permission for his project by both the local Scouting District and Norristown Farm Park Superintendent Ken Shellenberger. On a beautiful, bright, sunny day in December 2020, in Covington, Georgia, members of the Atlanta East District Lay Organization, church family, community members, and the Newton County Board of Directors gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Josephine Burdette Brown, Senior Citizens Center. The 14,100 sq. foot facility was the dream and brainchild of Sister Josephine B. Brown for more than 25 years.

 | AME Doctor assembles local Black Doctors to address community about COVID 19 vaccine A member of the Historic St. Paul AME Church in Columbus, Ohio, Dr. Laura Espy Bell created a video regarding the COVID-19 vaccine through the Columbus Black Physician’s Network which she cofounded in 2016. A graduate of Spelman College and the University of North Carolina, Dr. Espy Bell is an emergency physician with nearly two decades of experience. This is one of the many ways that AME clergy and laity have promoted the need for members of our broader community to take the vaccine. Reflecting on the video, member of St. Paul Judicial Council Secretary Derek Anderson, stated, “This is an exciting opportunity for our community to be in the forefront of total vaccination. The foresight of our own member to pull together our cities BEST medical professionals is remarkable and speaks to the total mission of the AME Church.” The video will be played in local churches and African American civic groups. At present, the General Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is scheduled to meet July 6 – 10, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. Community Action partners with Wilberforce University to enhance distance learning access 
WILBERFORCE – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ohio Association of Community Action Agenciespartnered with Wilberforce University to provide much-needed technology to support students’ remote learning. The pilot project will allow 100 eligible students, who have been impacted by the pandemic, access to a personal laptop enabling them to continue their studies through distance learning. AAMES Youth Gardening Contest 
AAMES is hosting a Spring Gardening contest for A.M.E. Scouts this upcoming Spring 2021. The Contest will begin on February 15, 2021 and will end on May 15, 2021 AAMES in partnership with the “AME International Health Commission” (Healthy Living Project) and “Friend of AAMES” (FAAMES) will the holding a Gardening Competition the Chair of the Competition will be Milton Chambliss (8th).

Oklahoma Episcopalians raise money for AME church’s Tulsa massacre prayer wall, pandemic food ministry

 The Diocese of Oklahoma raised more than $164,000 in its annual Bishop’s Appeal, but the money will not support Episcopal ministries this year. Instead, Oklahoma Bishop Poulson Reed traveled to Tulsa this week to present the diocese’s fundraising proceeds to the Historic Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church to bolster the congregation’s racial healing work and pandemic food ministry.
