Board of Adjustment Approves Application for Montreat Lodge

Board of Adjustment Approves Application for Montreat Lodge
 MONTREAT, NC

The Mountain Retreat Association (MRA) is pleased to announce the approval of a Special Use Permit from the Town of Montreat Board of Adjustment to begin work on a new lodge in Montreat, the conference center’s first significant new building in 30 years.

“The Board’s action was a validating step forward into an exciting future for all Montreaters,” said Richard DuBose, MRA president. “At every stage of this journey, we received support and encouragement from members of our Montreat family, including year-round and seasonal residents, church leaders, and program attendees, and we are so grateful. It remains our intention to be good neighbors and to move forward as a community together.”

The new lodge will provide forty ADA-compliant guest rooms with private baths and three residential-style kitchens, meeting spaces, and onsite parking. It will be built at the center of the MRA’s campus and within walking distance of the conference center's major facilities. More information about the new lodge can be found at www.montreat.org/new-montreat-lodge.

The Mountain Retreat Association, which operates the conference center, was founded in 1897 and has been affiliated with the Presbyterian Church since 1907. Conferencing soon opened the door for the development of the cottages and residences in Montreat today. In addition to the year-round schedule of programs and activities, many community residents know Montreat for its walking paths, trails, and parks, with more than half of the MRA’s original land preserved for green space and conservation.
